Roy Morgan Research has found that Aussie kids now spend more time using the internet than watching TV. The study indicated;

  • Kids aged 6-13 spend an average of almost 12 hours a week using the internet, double the figure of in 2008.
  • The time kids spend online increases by an average of 42 minutes each year.
  • In 2008, the average Australian kid spent 14.5 hours a week in front of the television, by 2016 this number had declined to 10.5 hours.
  • Watching online videos is the most common internet activity, 1 in 4 kids say YouTube is their favourite website.

Despite these rising figures, the study showed the television is still the main source of entertainment as much of the kids internet time is done at school or outside of the family home.
